US News & World Report released their 2024 Comprehensive Ranking of American Universities this week.

The rankings ushered in a major reshuffle, with not only some schools slipping down the Waterloo scale, but also schools that shouldn't have been on the list? The change in the rankings has tugged at the heartstrings of many students studying and preparing to study in the United States. It has also sparked heated discussions.

Here's a look at the details of the list~

1

The basis for this year's rankings has been adjusted considerably from 2023, with key changes including:

Greater emphasis on social mobility and the achievements of college graduates;

Increasing or decreasing the weight of some existing ranking factors; (e.g., adding the area of ""helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed"")

Removing the following factors from the 2022-2023 rankings: alumni giving rate, percentage of faculty with terminal degrees, undergraduate class size, and high school status;

There will be new ranking factors from third-party sources;

To increase transparency, the ranking system ranks the top 90 percent of colleges and universities, not just the top 75 percent.

The official ranking reference metrics and weightings are listed below:

Major changes to the rankings

1. was it officially announced that Columbia, which had dropped out of the rankings, has been placed at #12 along with Cornell and the University of Chicago? I wonder where they got the data from this time. Is it a uniform 12th place for those not participating in the rankings?

2. big win for the California system universities. Not only did Berkeley and UCLA move up to #15, a full 5 spots. ucsd advanced 6 spots-advancing from 32 to 28. Even the Farmers University of California-Davis squeezed into the top 30, tying with UCSD at No. 28, a 10-place gain. !!!!

3. Brown University debuts in the top 10

4. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill up 7 spots to 22, looks like North Carolina's 10.15 EA is going to get blown out this year.

5. Washington University in St. Louis drops 9 spots to just outside the top 20 (24)

6. many Chinese students dream school - New York University (NYU) plummeted 10, fell out of the top 30, ranked 35. many NYU students instantly cooled down.

7. a number of large public schools promoted to the top 50, such as the University of Washington in Seattle, Rutgers University, Purdue University, the University of Maryland, etc., replacing the long-term stability of the top 50 like Northeastern University, Case Western Reserve University. In my opinion, the real is deserved.
